Opportunity for employers and providers to shape digital skills training in D2N2

D2N2 is looking to take forward an Employer led digital/ICT training proposal, which is co-designed with employers, FE institutions, and private training providers.

The proposal will deliver a targeted 3-month pilot to inform and shape digital training opportunities for those age 19+ in the Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire area.

It will also inform wider preparation for the National Skills Fund from 2021 onwards.

The D2N2 Digital Skills Employer Engagement event, being held online from 14:30 on 30 July will be led by the LEP Skills team and will be of interest to employers who have challenges in sourcing digital skills for their business/work.

Skills gaps in a wide range of digital roles including, programmers, web developers, system technicians, cybersecurity and analytics professionals or design roles can all be considered as part of the pilot.

The session will focus on:

  • Identifying the digital skills needs and shortages of employers in the D2N2 area
  • The opportunity to co-design a training model to meet that need
  • Examine the role that employers can play in the delivery of bespoke local training offer.

Questions to consider will be shared with those attending in advance to allow for discussions including ideas around employer involvement, ideas around delivery, and how to best reach individuals with protected characteristics.

Digital Skills

Rachel Quinn, D2N2, Head of People and Skills said: “To help develop a strong bid for D2N2, it is vital that we have strong employer voice on the digital skill gaps.”

“The event will be for digital businesses/employers of higher-level digital skills to discuss the development of skills pathways and to obtain a commitment from employers for the digital skills initiative.”

“As part of the programme they will be expected to offer interviews, experience and employment opportunities to those participating in the programme, therefore, making sure the skills programme meets their needs is absolutely vital.”
