Seymour Link Road Now Complete

A £7.5million piece of infrastructure in North Derbyshire – part-funded by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership – has now been completed.

The Seymour Link Road, which links the Markham Vale Enterprise Zone with junction 29a of the M1 motorway, has been under construction since early 2016 and has now (March 10) been officially opened, helping to ‘unlock’ development land with the potential to create over 1,000 new jobs.

This project was part-funded by both the D2N2- the business-led partnership which promotes economic growth across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire -(with a contribution of £2.52million) and Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnerships (£3.78m), and also Derbyshire County Council (£1.26m). The road is one of a number of projects to receive funding through D2N2’s Local Growth Fund (LGF) allocation – a key driver in helping D2N2’s over-arching aim of creating 55,000 new jobs in its area over ten years (up to 2023).

Located on the site of the former Seymour Colliery, Markham Vale is being redeveloped for industry – particularly the manufacturing, technology, environmental and logistics sectors. Part of the Markham Vale site was given Enterprise Zone status in 2011, meaning businesses which locate there can receive tax relief and other benefits. The Seymour Link Road will give access to businesses that are based on the north side of Markham Vale Enterprise Zone to Junction 29a of the M1 motorway.

Two of the plots available for development on Markham Vale North have already been acquired by Great Bear Distribution and Ferdinand Bilstein UK, both of which are set to create up to 400 new jobs in coming years.

David Ralph, Chief Executive of the D2N2 LEP, said: “Markham Vale is playing a big part in boosting Derbyshire’s economy.

“Investing in the development of Enterprise Zone sites is key to our economic ambitions and at the heart of D2N2’s Strategic Economic Plan, with its overarching ambition to create 55,000 new private sector jobs in key industries over ten years.”
