Trent Bridge Awarded Major Match Package

Trent Bridge will stage five matches in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup and Investec Test Matches against South Africa and India in 2017 and 2018 respectively after being awarded a prestigious package of matches by the ECB.

The Nottinghamshire venue will also host Royal London One-Day Internationals against the West Indies (2017), Australia (2018) and India (2018) while NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day will return to Trent Bridge in 2019.

“We are delighted to have secured a significant volume of quality international cricket which will enable us to continue to deliver our strategy of sustained investment in our venue, our professional team and our community programmes,” said Nottinghamshire Chief Executive Lisa Pursehouse.

“This outcome is fair reward for the commitment of our members and supporters, the work of our committee and staff and the support of our local authority and private sector partners who have done so much to help maintain our status as a Test Match Venue.

“The combination of quality Test cricket in 2017 and 2018 allied to prestigious Royal London One-Day Internationals and ICC Cricket World Cup fixtures is a fantastic outcome for cricket supporters across the east midlands.”

The Club is particularly proud to have secured five high-profile fixtures in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, ten years on from the successful staging of ICC World Twenty20 2009.

We last hosted an ICC Tournament in 2009 and it was such a fantastic experience for the whole County that we desperately wanted to do it again,” said Lisa.

“Our presentation to the ECB focused on our track record of selling tickets, our policy of continual investment in our venue and the impact of our community schemes. Staging these matches will enable us to continue delivering in these three areas.

“We are really pleased to have five years of confirmed major matches and look forward to the prospect of a further round of bidding for matches to be staged between 2020 and 2022 in the New Year.”

Long-term certainty of supply improves the prospect of further capital investment in Trent Bridge if the correct business case can be made.

“Investing in our facilities remains an ongoing priority and enhancing our pavilion and increasing capacity in the William Clarke Stand are amongst the projects that we are actively considering,” said Lisa.

“Securing the fixtures which have been allocated to us today certainly brings renewed investment in Trent Bridge closer to fruition.”

Lord’s will host 32 days of international cricket between 2017 and 2019, in addition to ICC global tournament awards.

Lord’s, Edgbaston and Old Trafford will also stage 2019 Investec Ashes Tests and The Kia Oval and Headingley will also feature in the series by virtue of existing staging agreements.
