Utility specialist latest to move into Markham Vale Enterprise Zone

One of the UK’s leading smart-meter specialists has joined a wide variety of other successful businesses at the Markham Vale Enterprise Zone, north Derbyshire – which is invested in by both the D2N2 and Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs).

Chesterfield- based Meter Provida –  who supply businesses and homes with smart, gas, water and electric metering products – were previously based at Broombank Business Park and, owing to the continuing expansion of the business, sought out a new 40,000 sq ft  unit at Markham Vale, near junction 29a of the M1 motorway. The company has signed a 15 year lease there.

Markham Vale is already home to major companies such as Great Bear Distribution, Gould Alloys and Inspirepac. A further 70 acres of commercial space is to be opened up on the site by the end of the year.

In August (2015) it was announced that the Enterprise Zone, on the site of the former Seymour Colliery, had created more than 700 jobs to date, with an estimated 700 more in the pipeline.

The D2N2 LEP – which co-invests in the Enterprise Zone site – is a partnership of business, local authorities, and skills and training providers which works to promote economic growth and create jobs in Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Stephen Burr, Director at Meter Provida Ltd, said: “Our company is expanding rapidly and we set Henry Boot Developments the task of building and delivering a new industrial unit to a very tight deadline; and they have exceeded our expectations.  We are delighted with the new facility which will enable the company to grow.”

David Ralph, D2N2 Chief Executive, added: “Enterprise Zone development is at the core of the D2N2 Strategic Economic Plan and key to delivering our strategy of creating 55,000 new private sector jobs in key industries, over ten years.”

D2N2 also covers the Derby and Nottingham Enterprise Zone which includes the Boots Enterprise Zone, Nottingham Medipark, Beeston Business Park and Nottingham Science Park in Nottinghamshire; and Infinity Park in Derby.
