Vesuvius Scheme continues to take shape

D2N2 joined property developer and investor CEG and Bassetlaw Council to celebrate the completion of the infrastructure works and submission of the first phase of industrial works designed to regenerate the former Vesuvius brickworks site on Sandy Lane, Worksop.

The £5.5million package of work has delivered a major new roundabout at the entrance to the site, the access road into the site, and remediation of the whole site ready for development.

These works were part-funded by a £4.48 million investment from D2N2’s Local Growth Fund allocation.

D2N2 is the private sector-led partnership of business, local authorities, skills and training providers, and community and voluntary services representatives which promotes economic growth across the area of Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Vesuvius Scheme

Redevelopment of the former Vesuvius Brickworks site includes a major new roundabout, an access road into the site, and remediation of the whole site ready for development.

The rejuvenated site could provide 36,700 sqm (395,000 sqft) of new employment floorspace with the potential to accommodate a significant number of new jobs within the local economy.

Asda is now on site with its new 70,000 sq ft food store and petrol filling station under construction, which will create 200 new retail jobs. The store is set to open in the new year.

Tom Goshawk, D2N2 Head of Capital Programmes, said: “It’s great to see the programme of works already completed by CEG turning the Vesuvius Brickworks into a thriving retail and business park capable of boosting the local economy, bringing new jobs and homes to this part of Northern Nottinghamshire.”

Will Martin, Development Manager at CEG, said: “It’s great to see this site coming back to life. We have already created construction jobs and training and apprenticeship opportunities, and with Asda on site this will create circa 200 permanent jobs when it opens next year.”

Cllr Jo White, Cabinet Member for Economic Development at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “It has been a major and long-held ambition of this Council to bring the Vesuvius site back into use and, through partnership working, create jobs, business opportunities and more choice for residents.”

“Thanks to CEG, D2N2 and Asda, the first phase of this impressive development is rapidly progressing, and we look forward to appraising plans for the rest of the site, in addition to working with Asda and other future employers when it comes to job creation and apprenticeships.”

“The Vesuvius scheme highlights D2N2’s commitment to prosperity and productivity for the whole of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.”
