D2N2 is cementing its reputation as a thriving tech region by celebrating the inclusion of twelve tech-based businesses within BusinessCloud’s Midlands Tech50 rankings.
With Hinkley-based Audio-visual consultants Holovis topping the list, Derby-based Bloc Digital were the highest placed business in our region at 10.
Founded 20 years ago, initially to create 3D visualisations of aircraft engines for Rolls-Royce, Bloc Digital is now one of the UK’s leading immersive digital technology studios, delivering cutting-edge digital visualisation.
The final ranking was decided by a combination of selections from an expert judging panel (see below) and a public vote on the 117-strong shortlist which attracted 1,200 votes.
The short list featured 26 D2N2 businesses from across the region.

D2N2 Business Support
The rankings also represent a strong showing for D2N2 with numerous businesses having benefited from support via European union funding.
Bloc Digital have benefited from support from the Enscite project whilst 3D technology company GeoSLAM attended workshops ran by the D2N2 Growth Hub in order to sharpen their digital skills.
Carbon recycling company Deep Branch Biotech and Oncimmune are based within the Wallgreen Boots Enterprise Zone Campus and Medicity respectively whilst Ideagen have worked closely with D2N2s Enterprise Adviser Network to help shape careers education at a local high school for girls interested in a tech-based career.
Rounding out the list is HALO X-ray Technologies who secured funding from the Midlands Engine Investment Fund (MEIF) and is currently based in the Biocity Discovery Building which was part-funded by a £6.5m from D2N2s Local Growth Fund allocation.
